Detailed setup guides and frequently asked questions for WC Address Autocomplete.

Security first

Always up to date with latest security standards.

Optimized

Zero bloat, high performance focus.

Detailed

Complete API and hook references.

Initial Setup

  1. Google API Key: You must have a Google Maps Platform account with "Places API" enabled. Get your API Key here.
  2. API Restriction: We recommend restricting your API key to your specific domain and the "Places API" for security. Learn more about restricting keys.
  3. Plugin Config: Go to Plugopolis > Address Autocomplete and enter your API key.
  4. API Version: We recommend checking "Use new PlaceAutocompleteElement API" for the most modern performance and to avoid deprecation warnings.

Customizing Appearance

If your address fields look "off" or have unreadable text:

  1. Go to the plugin settings page.
  2. Use the Active State color pickers to set a clear border or background color that appears when a user clicks into the field.
  3. To reset to your theme's default, simply clear all 6 color fields and save.

Troubleshooting

  • No suggestions appear: Verify that "Places API" is enabled in your Google Console and that your billing information in Google Cloud is up to date (Google requires a card on file even for the free tier).
  • White-on-White text: If manual colors aren't matching, set your Active Text Color to #333333 to force visible text against light backgrounds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.Do I need a Google Cloud account?

A.

Yes. Google provides a generous free tier for Places API, but you still need an account and a valid API key to use the service.

Q.Does it work with the "Shipping to a different address" checkbox?

A.

Yes! The autocomplete is automatically applied to both the Billing and Shipping address sections of your checkout.

Q.Can I restrict suggestions to a specific country?

A.

Yes, you can configure country restrictions in the plugin settings to limit suggestions to the areas you serve.

Q.Will this slow down my checkout page?

A.

No. The Google Maps script is loaded asynchronously and only active when the user interacts with the address fields.

Q.Is it compatible with custom checkout managers?

A.

We support the standard WooCommerce checkout fields. If you use a custom checkout plugin that uses standard field IDs, it will work seamlessly.
